Review expectation gaps during the first 30 days.
Review role clarity, access to support and decision scope in stages.
01 Clarify tasks and support during the first week.
During the first week, ask the employee to explain who to approach and what counts as completed work. Check their understanding, not just whether an explanation was given. The first-week, second-week and day-30 checkpoints are editorial suggestions; adapt them to the role and working schedule.
02 Compare specific situations in the second week.
Ask what differs from expectations and document one specific situation. Record employee expectations, manager expectations and actual events separately. Consider workload and incomplete handovers instead of attributing every difficulty to personal values or personality.
03 Agree on one next step around day 30.
Review positive and difficult situations, then agree on actions for both the employee and workplace. Specify a contact, situation and date rather than a vague promise to ask more questions. At the next check-in, review whether the action was possible and whether conditions changed.
A practical review table
| Suggested stage | Question | Record |
|---|---|---|
| First week | Are completion criteria and support contacts clear? | Unexplained tasks and contacts |
| Second week | Which situation differed from the preview? | Expectations, reality and context |
| Around day 30 | What will both sides try next? | Action, owner and review date |
