PRACTICE GUIDE / 2026.10.03

Three rewriting examples for job listings that communicate workplace culture.

Turn autonomy, teamwork and growth into situations candidates can picture.

MindMatch Journal editorial team

01 Translate broad promises into everyday actions.

Before promising autonomy, ask what people can decide themselves and what needs approval. Use concrete examples such as budgets, customer responses and task order. Distinguish a formal policy from how it is actually used.

02 Separate aspirations from current practice.

Leadership aspirations may differ from employees’ daily experience. Ask the manager and team member to describe a recent task. If departments differ, identify the advertised team rather than presenting its practices as universal.

03 Include what candidates should clarify.

Describe the responsibilities that accompany each benefit. For collaborative work, explain the cadence of discussions and the preparation expected from the individual. Before publishing, confirm that the team can describe the same practices in interviews.
